Actually, I believe this query probably had its basis in the rumor, prevalent when I was in Chapel Hill, that an employee had died in the back of Swensen's ice-cream store from inhaling nitrous oxide from a large tank (presumably used at some point in the ice-cream making process).
This seems likely to have been nothing more than an urban legend, as the ever-helpful Wikipedia tells us that "a user would need to inhale 525 liters of nitrous oxide in a short period of time to overdose".
