  • n. The marten, or its pelt.
  • n. The groundhog, or its pelt.

from The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia

  • n. The pekan, fisher, or Pennant's marten, Mustela pennanti or M. canadensis, also called black-cat and black-fox.

From the same Cree term ocêk, otchek ("fisher, marten") or Ojibwe term ojiig ("fisher, marten") which was taken into English as "wejack" in reference to the marten and as "woodchuck" in erroneous reference to the groundhog. "Woodchuck" may, indeed, derive from this form ("woodshock"). (Wiktionary)
