  • noun In metallurgy, the lead as it comes from the smelting-furnace, still containing a small percentage of impurities (to be removed by softening or refining) and the silver which the ore originally contained, and which is separated from the lead by pattinsonization (see Pattinson process, under process) and subsequent cupellation.
