• noun Any V-shaped piece used in mechanical constructions to enable a load or effort to be transmitted symmetrically to two other points of attachment, or which bridges or spans another element without touching it, for this same general purpose.
• noun A piece which acts to bring two parallel forces or efforts to act at one point when resistance is applied, as the yoke enables two oxen to draw one cart or plow.
