There are several definitions posted by different individual, including the apparent original usage referring to late 19th century anti-Czarists in Russia and Catholic participants in the N. Ireland conflict. Also applied to radicals, religious fanatics who are terrorists and now a colloquial term used to describe troublemakers and trolls or someone who stirs up passions and controversy over a particular statement or item of interest.
I was interested because a mainstream news article just described anti-Michelle Bachmann bloggers as bombthrowers.
