This is a mis-spelled romanization (transliteration) of the Japanese word カラオケ (karaoke) meaning lit. "empty orchestra".
It can be defined as "a form of entertianment where participants sing along to an audio or video recording with the vocal track subtracted or attenuated and sometimes containing a lyric subtitle track with a moving cursor to guide phrasing".
The correct, accepted romanization to English is karaoke (kar.ao.ke)
