  • The word is actually "amandla" and means "strength" or "power". It is an example of a class 6 noun in isiXhosa and isiZulu. This particular example has no singular form. During the Anti-Apartheid struggle, it was used as a war cry. The appropriate response was "Ngawethu"! Ngawethu" means "It's ours".
