Sarra - sorry I didn't even spell your name correctly in the previous comment. I don't know where my brain is. At any rate, here is a link to a post acknowledging my mistake. Thank you for pointing it out.http://walkinthewords.blogspot.com/2008/11/we-all-make-mistakes-mccains-schwa.html

Right you are serra, I am embarrassed to have made that mistake. Though I still don't believe the dipthong carries any additional weight.
Not that Obama is truly a favorite word but it is an interesting name that possibly helped him win the election. See what I am talking about:http://walkinthewords.blogspot.com/2008/11/obamas-name-wins-election-thanks-to.html

Wow, I forgot about Pokemon. Nice analogy though. So are you implying that moms who have kids that play hockey evolve into moms who have kids that play soccer? I would think it the other way around - only because hockey is so expensive and time consuming that if one started with hockey they wouldn't have time or money for soccer.Mine only play baseball though, so what do I know.

All right, I give up, how is this a sports-related compound word? I know it is a Hootie and the Blowfish album but I am not familiar with any reference to sports. Clue me in?

As much as George W. gets ridiculed for using this non-word, I actually think it is an outstanding portmanteau and has every right to be considered a word.
