surplant is not a word. The word is supplant, of which surplant is a misspelling. This is how the English (or in this case American) language evolves: enough people misspell a word in print; those misspellings are cited as sources in dictionaries; perhaps, in however many years time, surplant thus becomes a real word, listed in the Oxford English Dictionary. But, until then, it's simply wrong.
