Mulatuppu is a real place. I found it in the short story quoted in the Example on this site ("The Specialist's Hat" by Kelly Link) and thought it was a product of her marvelous imagination when I searched Google Maps with no result. A plain Google search turned up "Mulatuppu" in a 1963 report on a site collecting shark attack data. A closer look at Google Maps in the same area, the San Blas coast of Panama, indicated it is now spelled Mulatupo. There is an airport of that name.
