I first came across this word in North-West England. It is still in common use in the Town of Bolton where as a verb it is taken to mean “To tidy and make pleasant”. An example I have heard is “This garden just needs a bit of tityfication before the mother-in-law arrives.”

My life changed when I was given an etymological dictionary at school. I feel my brain being tickled when I discover the roots of new words.
