  • "Hypo" is a synonym for chemical fixer used in black and white film and paper development. The full chemical name is Sodium Thiosulfate or ammonium thiosulfate. It is a fixing bath that makes the image "permanent". It was also the name of John Wesley Powell's fat donkey when he became one of the famous American survey photographers.
