  • Dictionary definition: A sensory receptor, found chiefly in muscles, tendons, joints, and the inner ear, that detects the motion or position of the body or a limb by responding to stimuli arising within the organism. In real terms, it's used generally within hypnosis or any other altered state therapy as the part of you that responds unconsciously. You may recognise phrases such as "gut call" or "eyes in the back of my head"; these are indicative of having a reaction which generally cannot be ascribed to one of the 5 senses and therefore would be "sensed" by a preprioceptor.
