However, since I can't resist...my current favorites are the Spanish words "almohada" (pillow) and "alfombra" (carpet) – along with various others – which use the "al" beginning common in Arabic.
Discussions with Lebanese-Colombians and an etymological dictionary about the Arab origins of Spanish words: almuerzo, almohada ... many things al –.
Furthermore, they are relatively common words "almuerzo" for "lunch," "almohada" for pillow, etc., suggesting that the Arab influence, at least in terms of language, was fairly far-reaching.
