  • noun In the nomenclature of the spicular elements of sponges, a form of triæne having a thick shaft or rhabd from near the middle of which arise symmetric sets of branches by threes. It is derived from the tetraxial type of spicular structure. Also called amphiaster. See amphiaster, 3, and sponge-spicule.
