  • (v.) Western American regionalism meaning to cut an identifying slit in the ear of a calf, sheep, or other livestock animal. I observed this being done to milking goats with a rusty razor blade in central Mexico in the late 1970's - to separate those individuals of the herd owned by a father from those owned by his son.
