  • This mineral was not named for that high performance automobile. Instead, the name honors professor Giovanni Ferraris of the Institute of Mineralogy, Crystallography and Geochemistry, University of Turin, Italy, who studied the crystal structure of several aresenate minerals from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, France.
