  • One interesting factor that influenced the AHD's format (double-column page with a narrower foredge column devoted to illustrations), which the reviewer may not know of, was the use of automatic typsetting: it is extremely difficult (and expensive) to program a computer to set run-arounds (the insertion of an illustration into a block of text so that the text is run around it).
