  • An extinct genus of ratite belonging to the moa family, the Giant Moa was endemic to New Zealand. It is thought to have been the tallest bird that ever lived at about 12 ft. and more than 500 lbs. Remains of Giant Moa feathers are red-brown and hairlike; they probably covered all but the lower legs and head. The bird probably resembled a large, heavy ostrich.
