Spanish adjective, derived from 'gran hermano', or Big Brother; the closest English equivalent is probably 'Orwellian'. Though it has always seemed a little unfair to me that both Orwell and Kafka had their names hijacked to construct adjectives that relate not to their persons or literary styles, instead being derived from the content of one or more of their books.

They'd probably be glad at the unfairness though, as it means their names come up a lot more frequently in conversation than they otherwise would.
