The Incredible Fantods formed in Los Angeles in 1954, initially under the management of "Nervous" Nate Bell. The group signed a contract with Restless Records but experienced little success until they met music entrepreneur/songwriter Jittery Johnson. After Johnson changed the group's lineup, adding lead vocalist Skittish Winston, the Fantods shot to fame with 6 hit singles, including "You're So Jumpy" and "(I'm in an Extreme State of Intense Emotion) Over You." Using their successful formula of singing about jangling nerves, the Fantods topped the American and British charts longer than any other rock and roll group. They stayed together until 1962, when Winston tragically died of an overdose of caffeine.
