  • Apparently it was theorised to be, and after the theory died Madame Blavatsky got hold of the name and decided it was a sort of second class Atlantis. (Hence the Visions of Atlantis song 'Lemuria': 'Ancient stories of a mystic landscape / On the surface of the ocean's pride: / The legend lives...')

    It's also an alternative name for the Roman festival of Lemuralia.
