Keep up the great work and if you ever need any 'mastiha' or 'mahlepi' - Toronto has many, many Greek bakeries and markets that sell it.
You know, I had to control myself not to send you a huge pack of mahlepi and masticha.
These remind me a lot of koulourakia, a greek cookie made & shaped in much the same way (also quite nice with tea, but typically flavored with mahlepi or vanilla instead of cinnamon).
The wonderful spice that gives Vasilopita its unique taste goes by a number of names: mahlab, malepi, mahlepi, and mahlep, just to name a few.
It’s a rich braided sweet yeast bread, like Challah, but subtley flavored with mahlepi ground cherry stones.
