  • This word has two separate meanings:

    1. the new moon (as opposed to š�?ip, "the full moon").

    2. the trunk of a pine or fir tree that has been stripped of all its branches except the very top ones and then decorated with ribbons and wreaths to celebrate some special event (e.g. newlyweds moving into their own home, or for May Day) – a picture of the May Day mlaj in the hamlet of Osek (near Nova Gorica) is here.
