  • Also called "needle fish." A staple food source for western Alaska residents, Quarruuk are trapped by the hundreds from sloughs during the winter. Typical quarruuk are about 2 inches in length. Usually eaten frozen dipped in seal oil; sometimes boiled. They are also used as dog food or bait for ice fishing.
