The estuary above the bridge is all more or less muddy, but the mud is most conspicuous in the upper reaches above Bo'ness where the foreshores are almost entirely covered with a deep bed of soft impalpable silt, and the "sleeches" or "sloblands" extend up past Grangemouth to Kincardine ferry.
