Origin from University of California Berkeley campus or Berkeley community in the late 1980's to early 1990's possibly from surfer culture at the time; Meaning is... behaving in a manner reflecting social norms and values purely to gain social acceptance and/or popularity. Example: Wearing those parachute pants is so trendtrole.
One who acts in a trendtrole manner would be a trendtroll as in... Can you believe Jim's wearing those parachute pants? He's such a trendtroll!
