The post came about because of another error I made yesterday, saying the 1810 war of independence in Mexico was against France -- I had this story on my mind because I had just reread my notes on Maximilian and Carlota from a lecture that used to be given regularly here in San Miguel by Dr. Morton Stith when he lived here.
