- n. A liliaceous genus of plants, consisting of 6 species, divided equally among the Atlantic States, the Pacific coast of North America, and eastern Asia. They are stemless perennials of mountain woods, with rather large, lily-shaped, white or rose-colored flowers, solitary or umbellate on a short peduncle. The species of the Alleghanies and northward are C. borealis and C. umbellata.
