Collinsonia

Gathered several August flowers on the banks of the brook; the yellow knot-root, or Collinsonia, with its horned blossom; yellow speckled-jewels, more rare with us than the orange kind; purple asters, and a handsome bunch of red berries of the cranberry-tree.

The bruised leaves of the Collinsonia canadensis (which grows in the Confederate States) are employed for the eruptions caused by the emanations from the poisonous sumachs, and the Verbena urticifolia, also found in South Carolina, is likewise considered an antidote.

This plant appears to be a species of Collinsonia;

Travels Through North & South Carolina, Georgia, East & West Florida, the Cherokee Country, the Extensive Territories of the Muscogulges, or Creek Confederacy, and the Country of the Chactaws; Containing An Account of the Soil and Natural Productions of Those Regions, Together with Observations on the Manners of the Indians. 1823
