When the Equuschick and Shasta were expecting their first child, I wrote that

So pretend you're The Equuschick and you're working on a new task or skill and having a bit of trouble, and then someone (a kind and well-meaning person, wholly ignorant of the exasperation they were about to unleash) said "Do it like I just showed you."

And The Equuschick watched last night with much more amusement than was at all seemly as Zeus wiggled his way up to the top of the bed to Shasta's side and as the sleep-walking Shasta sighed in frustration and crawled to the only part of the bed with any room left.

Zeus visits daily, but lives with the Equuschick, who selfishly insisted on taking her dog with her when she married.

"What," asked The Equuschick with much curiosity as he stood near her side of the bed and threatened to fall over, "are you doing?"

The Equuschick knows this to be true because, if the amount of time she's heard it says anything all, the phrase "Do it like I just showed you" must produce enough light-bulb moments in other people's brains to illuminate all of South Africa, whereas for The Equuschick that phrase won't spark a match.

Until a month ago when The Equuschick finally surrendered her resistance and started taking her prescribed and yet steroidal daily asthma preventative, she did not actually realize that most people could go up or down stairs at a brisk jog and not be a bit out of breath.
