NYCB's visionary founder George Balanchine, who died in 1983, staged the German-language Parisian premiere of "Sins" just before emigrating to the U.S. In 1958, he reworked the contorted concoction, which puts a sardonic twist on Christianity's septet of most grievous sins, for a short-lived English-language production at NYCB.
