- A region of southern California east of Los Angeles, including the cities of Ontario, Riverside, and San Bernardino. It developed as an agricultural area.
- A dry, upland region of the northwest United States between the Cascade Range and the Rocky Mountains, comprising eastern Washington and parts of northeastern Oregon, northern Idaho, and northwestern Montana. Farming, lumbering, and mining are important to the area.
