Istiophorus

There are 53 species of reef fish, rather fewer on the rocky-sandy reef, but over the sands there are several fish important to sportsmen: dorado Coriphaena hippurus, roosterfish Nemastitius pectoralis, blue marlin Makaira nigricans, striped marlin Tetrapterus audax, sailfish Istiophorus platypterus, swordfish Xiphius gladius and yellowtail kingfish Seriola lalandi.

These include four species of marlin, blue and black Makaira nigricans and M. indica, white and striped Tetrapturus albidus and T. audax, sailfish Istiophorus platypterus, spearfish Tetrapturus pfluegeri and swordfish Xiphias gladius.

The diversity of fish species includes some of the most economically significant species such as Thunnus thynnus (tuna), Tetrapturus albidus (white marlin), Makaira indica (black marlin) and Istiophorus albicans (billfish).
