- Korolev, Sergei Pavlovich 1906-1966. Soviet scientist. As director of the Soviet space program, he was responsible for many pioneering achievements, including the first Soviet liquid-fueled rocket (1933), the first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (1957), and the first manned space flight (1961).
