Both of these subspecies are members of the family, Spirochaetales, which also incudes the spirochetes '' Leptospira '', the casue of the human disease, leptospirosis, and '' Borrelia '', a genus of several species of spirochetes that cause the human diseases of relapsing fever and Lyme disease.
