Onychogalea

The mammal fauna includes unusually abundant populations of the spectacled hare-wallaby (Lagorchestes conspicillatus), especially in the lancewood-bullwaddy thickets, and the northern nailtail wallaby (Onychogalea unguifera), especially in grasslands and open woodlands along the margins between black-soil plains and red loamy soils.

Although there are no endemic mammals, threatened mammals native to this ecoregion include the kultarr (Antechinomys laniger DD), the spotted-tailed quoll (Dasyurus maculatus VU), bridled nailtail wallaby (Onychogalea fraenata EN), and brush-tailed rock-wallaby (Petrogale penicillata VU).

However, a number of endemic species and endangered species are found here, including the swift parrot (Lathamus discolor EN) and bridled nailtail wallaby (Onychogalea fraenata EN).

Two endangered mammals, the northern hairy-nosed wombat (Lasiorhinus kreftii CR) and the bridled nailtail wallaby (Onychogalea fraenata EN) were once widespread in eastern Australia but are now endemic to single locations within the Brigalow Belt.
