Etymologies

From Russian Тетрис (Tétris), coined by the creator of the game, Alexey Pajitnov, from the Greek numerical prefix тетра- ("tetra-") (as all of the game's pieces contain four segments) and теннис ("tennis"), his favourite sport. (Wiktionary)
