Definitions
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. A bolt having the end of its shank bent or splayed, to prevent it from being drawn out.
- n. A long bolt which serves to hold down a steam-engine or other piece of machinery to the masonry foundation on which it rests. The bolt passes down through the bed- or baseplate and far enough into the foundation to be securely held at its lower end by plates or other holding-devices to anchor it in place. When the nut above the bed-plate is tightened down, the machine is securely fastened to the mass of the foundation.
