  • noun The generic name given by Tschudi to the giant salamander from the Miocene of Œningen, the remains of which when found were regarded as human and were characterized by Scheuchzer as Homo diluvii testis. Andrias scheuchzeri attained a length of one meter, and there is a smaller species of the same geologic age.
