  • noun In entomology: Same as Anthomyia. Fallen, 1810. A genus of lepidopterous insects.
  • noun In ornithology, a genus of meliphagine birds, whose type is A. cæruleocephala of New Zealand, named by Swainson in 1837. The name, being preoccupied in entomology, was changed to Anthornis by G. R. Gray in 1840.
