1. A synonym of Diptera: a name given by Fabricius to the dipterous insects, from their feeding, like the common fly, by means of a sucker or antlia. The name is no longer in use, the term antlia being now applied exclusively to the spiral haustellate proboscis of lepidopterous insects.
