  2. Aquiferous canals the channels which traverse the foot or other part of many mollusks, as lamellibranchs and odontophores, opening upon the surface by one end, and at the other end, in some cases, emptying into blood-sinuses, thus establishing communication between the blood and the surrounding water. These aquiferous canals, as they have been termed, appear, in many cases, to open by their inner ends into the blood sinuses. Huxley, Anat. Invert., p. 491.
