Generally speaking, scent is an incredibly powerful tool to understanding your surroundings, a tool that many of us turn off because so many of the smells of modern life are too harsh, too arcid.

Things like arcid amplification, southern hemisphere lag, altitude effects, and so on, are predictions from the results from the GCMs. Some of the predictions are in reasonable accord with observations and in at least one case the prediction seemed to be robust to tweaks in the model, and it was later found that the data were in error and the model was not, and some of them, like antarctic temp profiles, do not match the observations.
