- n. The name given by some paleontologists to peculiar markings observed on various rocks in Wales and Newfoundland, and supposed to be burrows of annelids, or something similar. They have recently been carefully examined by various geologists and paleontologists, and are considered by them as not being of organic origin, but simply markings made by the spray or by water in some other form.
