  • In heraldry, divided by a bend sinister: the reverse of bendwise or bandé.
  • In music for the guitar or lute, barred: conveying a direction to press with the forefinger of the left hand across all the strings, in order to raise their pitch, and thus facilitate a temporary change of key.
