1. n. One of the minute discoidal bodies found in large numbers in the blood of mammals. They are from one fourth to one half the size of the red corpuscles, and are many times more numerous than the white corpuscles. See blood and bloodcorpuscle. Also called hematoblasts of Hayem, and corpuscles or elementary particles of Zimmermann.
