- n. A genus of dicotyledonous aquatic plants belonging to the family Nymphæaceæ. The only species, B. Schreberi, has alternate, peltate, oval, entire, floating leaves and axillary purple flowers. It is widely distributed in North America, eastern and tropical Asia, western tropical Africa, and Australia. It is sometimes cultivated in ponds, along with water-lilies, chiefly for its floating foliage; the flowers are inconspicuous.
