In the Davideis are fome hemlftlchs, or verfes left im - perfeftby the author, in imitation of Virgil, whom he fuppofes not to have intended to complete them: that this opinion is erroneous, may be probably concluded, becaufe this truncation is imitated by no fubfequent Roman poet; becaufe Virgil himfelf filled up one bro - ken line in the heat of recitation; becaufe in one the ienfe is now unfiniihed; and becaufe all that can be done by a brpken verfe, a line interfedted by a cafura and a fiill flop will equally efFedt.
