• noun A genus name for fossil fruits, originally based on specimens from the Upper Miocene of Piedmont, Italy, probably belonging to the genus Juglans, and perhaps identical with J. Nux-Taurinensis, later described by Brongniart. The name has since been indiscriminately but unwarrantably applied to fossil fruits in general.
